CHAPTER 1:: CHAPTER 2:: CHAPTER 3

Brian was exhausted. He didn’t leave Kinnetik until 7:30. Even though Friday nights were usually spent at Babylon, all he wanted to do was get something to eat and go home.
He opted for Mason’s Deli instead of the diner because at the diner he would undoubtedly run into Michael and have to hear, yet again, about the not-so-good Dr. Dave. And thinking about him made his stomach queasy.
He walked in and immediately saw Justin sitting in the corner by the windows. He placed his order and tried to ignore the blonde in the corner. He was unsuccessful. He found himself walking toward Justin’s table and sitting down.
“Hey.”
Justin looked up from his sketchpad. “Hey, Brian. What brings you by? Aside from the obvious.”
“There is only so much diner food one can consume. And I didn’t want to run into Michael,” Brian admitted.
“I can’t say I blame you,” Justin laughed.
“He’s not always that bad.”
“So, why don’t you want to see him?”
“Because, all I’ve heard all week, each and every time I’ve seen him is ‘David this and David that’.”
“Who’s David?”
“David is Mikey’s chiropractic-pain-in-the-ass boyfriend.”
“C’mon, Brian. Tell me how you really feel,” Justin joked.
“Anyway, Dr. Dave has asked Michael to move in with him. Mikey doesn’t want to, yet he keeps asking me what I think he should do.”
“What do you tell him?”
“I tell him to make up his own fucking mind. I can’t do it for him. Only he will know what’s going to make him happy. I am the last person you should come to for relationship advice.”
“I’ll be sure and remember that,” Justin said, taking a sip of his water.
The waitress came by with Brian’s to-go order. He took it and set it on the table in front of him. “So, what are you doing here? Besides the obvious.”
“I had to get out of my apartment. I told myself that I was going to take a break from painting for a while. But there are times where I find myself sitting in front of a blank canvas, staring at it. Force of habit, I guess. It’s getting pretty frustrating.”
“You seem to be doing good with that,” Brian said, pointing at the picture Justin was drawing of the deli.
“This is nothing. I can do inanimate objects like this in my sleep. I need to do something inspiring. And if inspiration should suddenly strike, all I have to do is walk back down the street.” Justin added in.
“So, you live just down the street?” Brian asked with a smirk. He was sure this was a tidbit of information disguised as a ruse to get him to invite himself back to Justin’s.
“Yeah, couple minutes by foot. Practically non-existent by car,” Justin said gathering up his stuff and putting it in his messenger bag. “Well, I’m gonna go now. Later, Brian.”
“Later,” he echoed. Brian sat there and wondered why he’d just told Justin about some of his problems, and why he really wanted to see the inside of Justin’s apartment.
~~~~~
At the diner the next morning Justin was listening to the conversation behind him as he looked through the menu. He didn’t consider it eavesdropping, merely observing without their knowledge.
“Brian,” Michael whined. “David’s coming home tomorrow morning and I still don’t know what I’m going to tell him.”
“Just be honest, Mikey. I don’t know what else you want me to tell you.”
“Guys, you are supposed to be helping me.”
“We did, we are and we are going to. We’ll support any decision you make,” a man with a slight Southern drawl said.
Justin tuned out the rest of the conversation. Michael’s whining was grating on his nerves. It was too early in the morning for Michael’s whiney little voice.
“Hey there. What can I get ya?” a loud voice asked.
Justin looked up from his menu and saw a waitress—Debbie her nametag read—with bright red hair. “I’ll have scrambled eggs, bacon, waffles with strawberries and whipped cream, and some coffee.
“Are you new here? I think I’d remember a face like yours,” Debbie said as she smacked her gum.
“Just moved here a little over a month ago. I haven’t had time to check out Liberty Avenue till now.”
“Well, let me give you one piece of advice. Stay away from him,” Deb said pointing behind Justin.
He turned around and saw she was talking about Brian. “Really? Why?” Justin asked facing Debbie again.
“You look like a nice kid. I don’t want to see you getting hurt.”
“Thank you, but I’ll be alright. I’m not as nice as I look.” Justin smiled sweetly.
“Okay, but you still be careful out there,” Debbie said as she went to put Justin’s order in.
He suddenly heard Michael grumble something before he stormed out of the diner.
~~~~~
Brian had been watching Justin on the dance floor ever since he first spotted the blonde come in. He would watch as guys put their hands all over Justin’s body and wanted to rip them off. He decided to do just that. He made his way though the sea of bodies until he came upon Justin and the guy he was dancing with.
“Fuck off,” he told the guy.
He took one look at Brian before deciding it’d be best to do what he was told.
“That wasn’t very nice,” Justin said as he wrapped his arms around Brian’s neck and pressed their bodies together. “How do you know I didn’t want to take him back to my place and do naughty things to him?” Justin asked as he placed small kisses on Brian’s neck.
“Oh, you could do so much better than him,” Brian breathed on Justin’s neck.
“Have any suggestions?”
“I might be able to help you out with that.”
~~~~~
Emmett and Ted watched Brian and Justin out on the dance floor.
“Who is that with Brian?” Emmett asked as he sipped on his Cosmo.
“Justin Taylor. He’s an artist and a new friend of Lindsay’s,” Ted answered.
“Where have I been? How come I haven’t met him yet?”
“Well, I’ve only seen him once myself.”
By now, Brian and Justin were practically making out, their bodies rubbing up against each other’s. They saw Justin say something into Brian’s ear. Brian smirked before nodding. Justin grabbed the waistband of Brian’s jeans and started leading him towards the backroom. Apparently, Brian didn’t like being led so he grabbed Justin’s hand and made sure he was the one in the lead.
When they got to the entrance of the backroom, Justin laughed and pulled Brian down for a kiss before going inside.
“Well, that is something you don’t see everyday,” Emmett commented, drinking the rest of his Cosmo. “Where is Michael, by the way?”
“Who knows? Haven’t seen him since this morning. I’m just glad that I’m not being forced to listen to one more thing about David. I’m so sick of the man,” Ted exclaimed. He saw a look pass over Emmett’s face and quickly added, “And it isn’t cause I am still in love with him. Cause I’m not. I just think that Michael deserves better.”
“Well, David will be back tomorrow so hopefully the incessant talking will cease and desist.”
~~~~~
Brian opened his eyes and looked around at his surroundings. He had no idea where he was. He never went to his tricks’ place. He got up and put on his jeans before following the smell of coffee. He walked down the hall to the kitchen. When he saw Justin most everything came rushing back to him.
“Why didn’t you wake me up?” Brian asked as he poured a cup of coffee, and then proceeded to add an insane amount of sugar to it. “And why are you dressed like Ted?”
Justin looked down at his clothes—loafers, khaki pants and a blue button up shirt. “I did try and wake you up; several times, in fact. You really think I’m dressed like Ted?”
“So, what’s with the accountant get-up?”
“Lindsay and Mel’s brunch. I wasn’t sure what to wear.”
“Fuck. I forgot all about that,” Brian groaned as he finished off his coffee.
“Do you want to go pick up your Jeep first or just go to your place to change for brunch?” Justin asked as he rinsed out their cups.
“What the fuck are you talking about?”
“You left your Jeep at Babylon and came back with me,” Justin explained.
“It’d take too much time to go pick it up now. We can just get it afterwards.” Brian went back to the bedroom to get the rest of his clothes.
~~~~~
They arrived at the Munchers’ 15 minutes late. As soon as they walked through the door, Brian was assaulted by almost everyone.
“Where the fuck have you been?”
“What’d you say to my kid, asshole?”
“It’s about time you got here, Brian.”
“Daddy!” Gus ran up and jumped into his dad’s arms.
“Hey, Sonny Boy,” Brian greeted his son, ignoring everyone else. “Have you met Justin?”
“Uh huh.” Gus nodded. “Justin came by yesterday. He brought me some paints,” he said excitedly. “Hey, Justin.”
“Hey, there, Gus,” Justin said as he ruffled the little boy’s hair.
Brian, with Gus still in his arms, and Justin went into the living room where most everyone was waiting for them.
“Justin,” Lindsay said, coming out of the kitchen. “I’m so glad that you could make it.”
“Thanks for inviting me,” Justin said as he took an empty seat next to Emmett.
“Hey, there,” Emmett said to Justin. “I don’t think we’ve been formally introduced. I’m Emmett. Emmett Honeycutt.”
“Justin Taylor. I’ve heard so much about you. Its nice to be able to put a face to the name,” Justin said warmly before turning his attention to Debbie.
“What did you say to my Michael?” Debbie asked as she pointed a finger at Brian and rested her hand on her hip.
“What the fu— What are you talking about?” Brian asked as he put Gus down who ran back over to his Momma (Melanie).
“I mean, what did you say to him that caused him and David to break up?”
“I told him to tell David the truth. To do what he felt was right.”
“I’m sure you did,” Debbie huffed.
Justin watched as Debbie went back over to Michael and Brian head toward the back. Michael soon got up to follow him.
~~~~~
Brian was halfway through his cigarette when he heard the backdoor open. He didn’t know why, but he wanted it to be Justin, but instead it was Michael.
“First the diner and now Mel and Lindz’s brunch. What, are you two dating now?” Michael asked with a sour voice.
“Yes, Michael. That’s exactly what we’re doing,” Brian answered sarcastically. “So what the fuck happened with David?”
“I told him that moving in together was a big step and I wasn’t sure if we were ready. I told him that I thought about it all week and when I talked to you about it—”
“Hold it right there,” Brian said as he stubbed out his cigarette. “Why the hell did you even mention me?”
“He asked me what led me to my decision. Talking to you helped lead me there,” Michael tried to defend himself.
“Are you shitting me? Me telling you to make a decision based on what you felt was right? Did you happen to mention that Ted and Emmett said the exact same fucking thing?” Brian asked irritated, lighting up another cigarette.
“Brian,” Michael whined. He was trying to think of something to say to defend his actions.
“Is that what you told Deb, too? That I led you to your decision? Fuck, Michael,” Brian exclaimed when he saw Michael’s face. He knew that was what happened. He looked out in the yard, his back to the door, and heard when Michael went back inside.
He was almost finished with his cigarette when he heard the door open again. “What?” he asked harshly as he turned around and dropped the cigarette butt and stomped it out.
Justin grabbed Brian’s jacket collar and pulled him down into a kiss. Brian’s arms snaked around Justin’s back and waist. Justin increased the pressure of the kiss and held Brian’s face in his hands. They stayed like that, taking small gasps of breath when needed, for a few minutes until Justin broke away.
“What was that for?” Brian asked.
“You looked like you needed it. And I wanted to.” Justin shrugged.
“Do you always do everything you want to?”
“Lately.” Justin thought briefly about his relationship with Derek but quickly shook those thoughts out of his head. “You okay?”
“Fan-fucking-tastic. Why wouldn’t I be?”
“Well, since everything I heard in there from Deb concerning you started out with, ‘That asshole Brian…’ Kinda makes me not want to like Deb.”
“Deb’s a good person. Just insanely overprotective sometimes when it comes to Michael. Don’t write her off just yet.”
“Okay. I’ll give her another shot,” Justin acquiesced. “Well, I guess we should be getting back inside.”
“I guess,” Brian sighed. “Hey.”
Justin turned to look at Brian.
Brian leaned down and gave Justin a soft open-mouthed kiss. “Thank you,” Brian whispered before heading back inside
