Justin sat at a booth in the diner looking through pictures of his art while he waited for Brian to meet him for their lunch date. He couldn’t believe how much had changed in the 3 weeks since their first date.

Michael had gotten his loft key privileges revoked after the fourth time he’d walked in on them mid-fuck. It wouldn’t have bothered Justin too much if Michael would have turned around and left, but it was the fact that he waited around until they finished that annoyed him.

Nathan had decided to stay in Pittsburgh a little while longer. He bought his own apartment and with his influence, he was in it within a week. As much as he loved his friend, he was happy to have his apartment back. Brian was also. They celebrated by fucking on every available surface in his apartment.

The Luminescence account was finally coming to a close. Apparently, the guy had nothing better to do than plague them with questions about every minor detail. He often wondered if the guy had an actual job or just loads of money to spend. Brian had spent at least 2 days a week in New York and he was glad that the man would finally have a break.

The best thing, though, was probably his art show the following week. He had been painting like a madman the past two weeks, and when he’d told Lindsay he had enough paintings for a show she immediately booked him in and started mailing out announcements. He couldn’t wait. Even though it was nowhere near his first show, he was still excited to share it with Brian.

He was brought out of his thoughts by Deb.

“Hiya, Sunshine,” she smiled down at him.

“Hey, Deb.”

“What are you doing here all by your lonesome? Where’s that boyfriend of yours?”

“Late,” Justin said as he placed the pictures in his messenger bag. “He was supposed to be here at least,” he looked at his watch, “twenty minutes ago.”

“I know you have a busy day today with your art show coming up and all; if you like, I can go ahead and put in your order. I’m assuming you’ll both be having the usual?”

“Yeah, that’d be great, Deb. Thanks.”

“No problem, sweetie.” She patted the side of his face before heading back to the kitchen.

~~~~~
Brian was at the door to the diner and he brushed the snow out of his hair and off his shoulders before entering the establishment. He saw Justin smiling at him from the booth and he made his way over to the blonde. He leaned down to give him a kiss hello before sliding across from him into the booth. He immediately noticed the change of expression on the boy’s face.
“What?”
“I told you going into this relationship that I didn’t care if you still tricked, but I also said that I would never stand coming in second to them,” Justin said quietly as he leaned across the table. “I have a life and things I need to do rather than sitting around waiting for my so-called boyfriend who obviously can’t pull his dick out of some tricks ass long enough to meet me for lunch.”
“What the fuck—”
“I can smell the fucking sex on you, Brian,” Justin said in the same harsh whisper. He put on his scarf and grabbed his coat before standing up. “I’m going to go run my errands now. I’ll be home tonight if you care to talk.” He tossed a $20 bill on the table and flung his messenger bag over his shoulder. He headed out the door leaving a stunned Brian sitting at the table.
~~~~~

Brian stormed into Kinnetik and went straight to his office, only stopping long enough to tell Cynthia, “no interruptions”. He closed his office door and started pacing the room. He couldn’t believe what happened at the diner. It infuriated him. He poured himself some Jim Beam and downed it quickly.

This is why he never did fucking ‘relationships’.

This is why he never let people in.

This was the thanks he got for fucking trying. Who the hell did Justin Taylor think he was? The blond never even gave him a chance to explain himself. The first thing he did was jump to conclusions, thinking the worst of him. The little shit pulled a fucking drama queen act, and then walks out. And then he expected him to go to his apartment to talk? Well, fuck that shit!

He sat down at his desk and tried not to think about Justin.

~~~~~
Nathan sat shirtless, clad only in jeans, and listened from his couch as Justin told him about what happened at the diner. He was actually surprised at what he was hearing. He waited until Justin finished and sat down on the couch next to him, before he said anything.
“Justin,” he said taking a deep breath. “You know I love you, right? And everything I am about to tell you is because of that.”
“Yeah, of course.” Justin nodded.
“Do you think that, maybe, you jumped to conclusions about the situation? I know, considering your past with Derek, it might be easy to do that, but you have to remember that Brian isn’t Derek. He’s not the kind of man who goes back on his word. And he doesn’t lie.”
“Since when did you become his fucking best friend?” Justin asked as he stood up from the couch and started to pace the living room.
“I’m not. Listen to me, Justin. Are you listening?” Nate looked up at his best friend. “I see the way he is with you and how you are with him, and I can tell that he would never do anything to intentionally hurt you. But what you did today…that was fucking shitty, man.”
“How? How can you see that when I can’t?” Justin asked, frustrated.
“It’s Derek. No matter what Brian tells you, you’re always thinking in the back of that pretty little blond head of yours that he’s going to betray you just the same.”
“And how can I stop that?”
“My advice? Talk to Brian. Tell him about your fears.”
Justin sighed heavily and rubbed the back of his neck. He knew his friend was right. “Yeah, I should talk to him. Apologize to him, too.”
“And, hey,” Nathan said as he stood up and slung his arm around Justin’s shoulders. “If it turns out you’re right, I’ll kick his ass for you,” he joked.
Justin chuckled. “Thanks for the offer, but I highly doubt that you’d be able to kick his ass.”
“Probably not,” Nathan said as he walked with Justin to the door. “But I’d go down trying. Now, go,” he said as he opened the door and pushed Justin out. “And call me later.”
~~~~~

Justin was nervous the entire drive over to Kinnetik. Would Brian talk to him? Did he even deserve to ask him to after the way he behaved? He sat out front in his Xterra for 10 minutes before getting out and heading inside the building. He immediately spotted Cynthia who looked at him with relief in her eyes.

“Justin,” she said as she got up from her desk to greet him. “Thank God you’re here!”

“What? Did something happen to the boards?”

“The boards?” Cynthia asked momentarily confused. “No, its Brian. He’s been impossible. He has fired Ted and me twice already. He said no interruptions, but I’m sure seeing you will help his pissy mood.”

“I wouldn’t be too sure about that,” Justin said.

“Why do you say that?”

“I’m the reason he’s in a bad mood. I did something really shitty today.”

“Well, then go in there and fix it,” Cynthia demanded as she pushed him toward the boss’ office.

He entered the office quietly and softly closed the door behind him. He watched as Brian made notes for the boards that littered his desk. “Hey,” he said hesitantly.

Brian looked up from his work. “What the fuck are you doing here?”

“Can we talk?”

“What the fuck for? I think I heard enough at the diner today.”

“Would it help if I said that I’m sorry? And that I was a fucking asshole and if you didn’t want to talk to me, I’d understand.”

Brian leaned back in his chair. “So what brought on this 360?”

“I went to talk to Nathan and he told me I was being stupid, and before I ruined what we have I should come and try to talk to you.”

“Oh?”

“I won’t make excuses for why I went off like that, I just want to explain.”

Brian shrugged and gestured to the chair in front of his desk.

Justin shed his coat and plopped down in the chair. He took a deep breath before starting. “Almost all my ex ever did was cheat on me. More often than not, he’d come home and I would smell other men on him.”

Brian shrugged his shoulders. “So?”

“So, I loved him. Or at least I thought I did.” Justin sighed. “At first I was stupid enough to believe that it was his job that kept him so busy. He’s very determined and works incredibly hard. That’s one thing that I respected most about him. So, I didn’t care because I knew it was important for him to succeed. Then, Nathan told me to get my head out of my ass and look around.”

“I think I’m starting to like Nathan.”

“Eventually,” Justin continued. “He started missing plans we made because he was too busy fucking the copy boy or the delivery guy. Or if we were out at a club and he found a hot trick, well then, I might as well have not even been there.”

“All these things you’re telling me, it doesn’t even remotely sound like something you’d put up with.”

“Its not. I’m not the same person I was when I lived in New York. After all the bullshit that I went though, I told myself that I wouldn’t let it happen again, that I would never let someone make me feel like I wasn’t important enough.”

“That’s great, Justin,” Brian said. “But I’m not going to let you take out whatever happened with your ex on me. I don’t want any part of this thing if you’re always going to be jumping to conclusions without letting me explain.”

“I understand that. I don’t want to be like that, either. I want to let myself trust you 100%, and for you to feel you can trust me, too. I know after my fucking drama queen moment earlier that I’m not doing well on either side.”

“No, you’re not,” Brian said. He saw the look of despair on Justin’s face and sighed. “Are you ready to listen?”

“Okay.” Justin nodded.

“The reason I was late was because I was on the fucking phone with our most illustrious client trying to finalize things before our next meeting in two weeks without having to miss your show.”

“Fuck. Now I’m even more of a shit.”

“Yeah,” Brian agreed.

“Were you able to work something out?” Justin asked quietly.

“No, the fucker won’t budge.”

“Its just as well. I don’t deserve to have you there after the way I acted.” Justin sighed. He leaned back in his chair and stared at the ceiling. After a couple minutes he could still feel Brian’s eyes on him. “What?” He sat up and looked into the hazel eyes boring into him.

“Are you through with the pity party? It’s making my dick soft.”

“Yeah.” Justin nodded. “I guess I’ll let you get back to work,” he said as he got up to leave.

“C’mere,” Brian said as he pushed his chair away from his desk.

Justin made his way back over to Brian and stood in front of him. The brunette grabbed him around the waist and pulled him forward. He glanced down and tried to read Brian’s eyes.

“I get that it’s hard for you to trust people, but if we’re going to do this then you have to forget about what happened in the past. Your ex is a fucking asshole. Forget him. And never compare me to him again.”

Justin nodded and whispered, “I promise.”

Poor Justin. He thought Brian was cheating on him, just like he ex did to him. I am glad they work things out and that Justin promise to trust him 100%. Another great chapter, Emily. Looking forward for more.
