I have a DVR. Is there any way to get the stuff that is on my DVR on my computer? And if so, how?

On a Tivo, yes. It's easy and the software that does it is free. On a plain DVR? Haven't a clue! :)

Drat. I see a spot where there is a USB connection, but I haven't the foggiest idea what it will do if I try to stick something in it.

Don't know if it helps or just makes you more frustrated, but on the Tivo the USB port is for a network adapter because you need to be connected to your broadband connection in order to transfer anything you record onto your laptop. I keep Gale movies/TV shows on the laptop along with Lost episodes. You can transfer back to the Tivo also.
